A message from Joe Kochan & the Crew --

Joe and the crew, at work: 6 am, bright smiles, lots of elbow grease.

THANKS to all who've helped so much in the past...

Our breakfast shift is NEXT WEDNESDAY, Dec. 16, from 6:00am
to 8:30am. I will need up to 6 volunteers to help out that morning.
If you've never been to Miriam's, this is a great chance to try out
working in the kitchen and to meet some great DC volunteers.

If you have already registered to be a volunteer, please just visit
http://miriamskitchen.volunteerhub.com/ and sign up for next
Wednesday's shift. If you have not registered yet, please continue reading.

If you're interested in volunteering, you will have to sign up for Miriam's
online volunteer management system. To do so, please follow these
1) Go to this link
http://miriamskitchen.volunteerhub.com/ and
register to be a Miriam's Volunteer

2) When they ask for your "Join Code" please put down
"PrincetonAlumni1" and then when prompted again
"PrincetonAlumni2" – this will get you invited to both
Princeton volunteer days each month.

3) Each month prior to one of our shifts, I will send you the
month's reminder to go into your account via that link
(remember your login info) and RSVP (note that there is
no way to RSVP "no," so you're only required to RSVP
in the affirmative). You will notice that it may list your
next two upcoming events, forcing you not only to think
about your commitment this month but also the following
month. Please do not casually RSVP yes -- we will rely
on this system to ensure that we have enough volunteers
to make breakfast each morning.

4) When you actually sign up for a specific event, it will
ask you to click on the affiliated group you are with (you
will only have one choice: Princeton Alumni).

5) Please email me at jskochan@hotmail.com if you run
into problems or if you have any questions

Thanks, Joe
Spend a rewarding couple of hours -- but do the above and EMAIL me after. - JK

Details about Miriam's and directions to the kitchen are below.

Miriam's Kitchen is a non-profit breakfast program for people who are
homeless, located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington DC.
Miriam's provides a hot, nutritious breakfast each weekday morning to
around 200 men and women. Founded in 1983 by a collaboration of
churches and local businesses, and is housed in Western Presbyterian
Church, Miriam's Kitchen has no religious affiliation. It is run by a
volunteer board of fifteen, staffed daily from a pool of over
three-hundred dedicated volunteers, and supported by area churches,
corporations and individuals. PCW/PWN volunteers at Miriam's for the
breakfast shift every 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Miriam's Kitchen is located in the basement of the Western
Presbyterian Church at 2401 Virginia Ave
., but the entrance to
Miriam's Kitchen is located near the corner of 24th Street and G
Street. Enter through the garage, which is on 24th street. At the
entrace to the garage (short driveway and garage door) is a stone
pillar with buttons. Press the button that reads "Lower Kitchen,"
which sounds a buzzer in the kitchen and somebody opens the garage
door. Walk down to the lowest level (1 level down) in the garage and
around to the clearly marked entrance to Miriam's Kitchen podium and
lower kitchen button and garage door. Come inside, sign in, and look
for Steve or somebody who steps forward to give you instructions.

METRO: Miriam's Kitchen is located 3 blocks from the Foggy
metro station.
