Community Service Event:
Volunteer with PCW and other Ivy alumni at a back-to-school literacy event with local students hosted by Our Kids Read

TransportationFor volunteers who plan to drive to the event, the school will hold up to 10 parking spots for participants. Please indicate that you require parking when you complete the volunteer interest form. The closest WMATA Metro station stop is NoMA on the Red Line.
 
Activities for the day: Volunteers will arrive at 1pm to help prepare for a back-to-school literacy celebration for students and their families, designed to spark a love of reading. The event will feature storytelling with music, free backpacks, and 1,000 free books with school supplies for students. Volunteers will support organizers with set-up, unboxing, and tabling of books, backpacks, and supplies; assist with photography/videography; help children select five free books after the storytelling; and handle breakdown/clean-up, including re-boxing leftovers and disposing of cardboard.

Additional informationOur Kids Read is a Maryland-based non-profit that (1) donates diverse books to U.S. K-5th grade children and their classrooms and (2) administers a one-on-one virtual Reading Buddies program that matches K-5th grade students with reading mentors. Please click here for more information about their mission.
