Welcome to the Princeton Club of Washington - HIKING - All Ivy Group/Carderock - May 4 at 4pm

HIKING - All Ivy Group/Carderock - May 4 at 4pm

An All Ivy activity, with plenty of opportunity for exercise, birding and some rock climbing. Enjoy great views and a cardio workout. The afternoon gets capped off with a meal (optional) later.

JOIN an ALL-IVY HIKE at Carderock/Sunday May 4th

This is PCW's first of many ventures into outdoors-focused
events and a great starting point. Plus, it's an All-Ivy event.

Keith Ferguson (Harvard Club) leads a HIKE at Carderock
on Sunday May 4th/4pm . Keith chose the spot because
of the abundance of birds (area around the Potomac, C&O
canal and the woods), plus the many turtles in the canal.
There is also a  major rock climbing area -- some just may
want to watch that activity.

DETAILS: Hike is 4 miles (and fairly easy). This can be
done in sneakers, but hiking shoes/boots are preferable.

REMINDER: BRING WATER -- there won't be "refueling" stops
(for water) once you arrive. Binoculars also recommended.

COST: Free, but the group may go somewhere to eat later.

Directions below. GPS coordinates for the meeting spot:
38.9714 N
77.1989 W

- Capital Beltway (US 495) to exit 41, at the Maryland end
of the Cabin John (American Legion) Bridge.

FROM MARYLAND, there is only one ramp. That puts you
westbound on the Clara Barton Parkway (on some maps it's
the George Washington Memorial Parkway).

FROM VIRGINIA, the exit ramp splits. TAKE LEFT branch
to reach westbound lanes of the Clara Barton.

Once on the Parkway, take FIRST exit (David Taylor Detachment
- Naval Surface Warfare Center). TURN LEFT at top of ramp and
follow road under C&O canal to a "T"-intersection.  TURN LEFT at
the "T" and go to end of parking area for the meeting site.
