PCW Fiction Book Club - April 2019

Please join PCW's Fiction Book Club for a dynamic discussion of The Judge and His Hangman by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. All are welcome.

The next meeting of the Princeton Fiction Book Club is scheduled for:

When: Monday, April 15 at 7:30pm

Where: Cleveland Park (RSVP for address)

Selection: The Judge and His Hangman by Friedrich Dürrenmatt

After studying art history and German literature at the University of Basel, Dürrenmatt decided to pursue writing as a career and painting as an avocation. Dürrenmatt is known not only for his plays, including The Visit (Der Besuch der alten Dame) and The Physicists (Die Physiker), but also for his detective novels, of which The Judge and His Hangman was the most celebrated. It was adapted into the movie End of the Game, starring Jon Voight and Jacqueline Bisset and with music by Ennio Morricone. He was also outspoken about politics, particularly during the Prague Spring and subsequent Soviet crackdown on Alexander Dubček in 1968. Dürrenmatt was one of Switzerland’s leading writer-intellectuals, along with Max Frisch and much earlier Gottfried Keller.
