Heather M. McPhee '92

NFLPA Associate General Counsel

For nine years, Heather McPhee was a litigator at Latham & Watkins LLP and Patton Boggs LLP, where she represented corporate clients in a variety of complex litigation practice areas, including antitrust issues, congressional oversight, corporate compliance, internal investigations, and white-collar criminal matters.  She worked very closely DeMaurice Smith at both Latham and Patton Boggs, and when De was elected as the Executive Director of the NFL Players Association in 2009, he asked her to join the NFLPA as Associate General Counsel.  The NFLPA is the labor union that represents all NFL player-employees in all matters involving wages, hours, and working conditions versus the NFL owners.  Since Heather became the NFLPA Associate General Counsel, she has been intimately involved in all major litigation matters, including the CBA-lockout case, the TV broadcast contracts litigation, the New Orleans Saints “Bountygate” matter, the Ray Rice case, Tom Brady/Deflategate, and the NFL-NFLPA drug policies.  Heather quickly learned that the only predictable aspect of her position at the NFLPA is that there will never be a boring day!

Heather is a 1992 magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University.  She was a Mahindra/Mellon fellow at Harvard University and Louis D. Brandeis fellow at Brandeis University, receiving her M.A. in 1994, and earned her J.D. with high honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 2000.  A native of Boston, Heather has resided in DC for almost seventeen years, but remains a passionate Red Sox fan.  Her five amazing and very athletic nephews think she’s kind of cool thanks to her current job!
