Tour of the African American Civil War Memorial & Museum

An ABPA-sponsored tour of the African American Civil War Memorial & Museum!

The DC Regional Committee of the ABPA invites you and family and friends to join us for a tour of the African American Civil War Memorial & Museum on Saturday afternoon, October 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  This free tour of the memorial and museum will give us a sharper understanding of our ancestral family’s contributions during that tumultuous conflict, in this Sesquicentennial anniversary of Lincoln’s preliminary Emancipation Proclamation (http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/american_originals_iv/sections/transcript_preliminary_emancipation.html).

The proclamation was issued on September 22, 1862, in the midst of the Civil War, and became effective on January 1, 1863, during the second year of the Civil War.  The museum (http://www.afroamcivilwar.org/) is located across the street from the U Street metro stop.

When: Saturday October 13, 1:00 pm

Where: 1925 Vermont Avenue, NW, Washington DC, 20001 (Metro: U Street, Green Line)
