PCW Speaker Series: In the Eye of the Storm: Reflections of the Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Libya.

Hear Ambassador Gene Cretz reminisce over his three years as our first ambassador to Libya in 36 years.

In the Eye of the Storm: Reflections of the Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Libya – The Honorable Gene A. Cretz.

Gene A. Cretz was sworn in  by then Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice in December 2008 to serve as America’s first ambassador to Libya in 36 years. Mr. Cretz brought to this post a distinguished diplomatic career, including 12 years in our embassies in Cairo, Damascus, and Tel Aviv, and fluency in Arabic. After serving in Tripoli for two years, he was recalled to Washington, under circumstances that led the news media to characterize him as the first diplomatic casualty of the WikiLeaks revelations. Once the rebellion in Libya broke out, he was one of the administration players who played a role in formulating America’s response. Then, in September 2011 he returned to a newly liberated Libya. He joins us to share his experiences just weeks after turning over the ambassadorship to his successor.

The reception prior to Ambassador Cretz's remarks will feature a selection of hors d'oeuvres, wine, beer, and soft drinks (included in the ticket price).
