Join Dartmouth friends for a special visit to Virginia's newest winery, DuCard Vineyards, owned by Dartmouth graduate Scott Elliff '75, at its gorgeous tasting room at the edge of the Shenandoah National Park, 90 minutes from the Beltway. In addition to producing fabulous boutique wines, DuCard is the greenest winery around - using solar panels for electricity, reclaimed 100 year old barn wood for its flooring and lots of other environmentally progressive practices. Scott will lead a tour out into the vines, and then tell us a little about the grape growing process, the history of the property, and his vision for the operation. Then we'll enjoy a wine tasting on the patio overlooking the mountains, a stream and the vineyards. Light food will be paired with the wines. The vineyard is approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours from the DC metro area. For more information about DuCard Vineyards go to www.ducardvineyards.com/

Step back into the 19th Century with a visit to Montpelier which is about 30 mins from the vineyard. The centerpiece of the tour is the lifelong home of James Madison, Father of the Constitution, and his wife Dolly. The mansion was built in the 1820s. Montpelier offers nearly 2,700 acres of beautiful gardens, landmark forests, walking paths, and rolling hills dotted with Thoroughbreds. The Visitor Center, completed in the spring of 2007, has a luxurious Grand Salon. The walking tour explores the ways in which the Montpelier landscape has evolved from Madison's day to the present. Enjoy the spring flowers with a walk at the elegant two-acre Annie DuPont Formal Garden. Visit the Montpelier website at http://www.montpelier.org
